01 — What changes for you

Easier and safer every day, without looking like a hospital.

Each feature below is described the way you'll notice it. The technical detail is underneath, for anyone who wants it.

  • Walk straight into the shower

No bath side to climb over. Either a low-threshold shower tray with a 25mm lip, or a completely level wetroom floor with no lip at all, wide enough for a walking frame or wheelchair.

  • Floors that grip when they're wet

R11 slip-resistant porcelain, the grade made for wet floors. It's matt underfoot but still easy to wipe clean, and comes in stone, slate and concrete looks.

  • No scalds, ever

A thermostatic anti-scald valve (TMV3 approved) caps the shower at a safe 41°C and shuts the hot water off if the cold supply fails. Ideal for anyone with reduced feeling in their hands or feet.

  • Grab rails that look like design

Slim rails in brushed brass, matt black or chrome, matched to the taps. We add solid timber or masonry fixings behind the wall first, so every rail takes full body weight.

  • A toilet at the right height

A comfort-height WC puts the seat at about 43–48cm instead of the usual 40cm. Sitting down and standing up take far less effort, especially after a knee or hip operation.

  • A seat when you need one

A fold-down shower seat that folds flat against the wall when it isn't in use, with the shower controls and a rail within reach of the seat.

03 — Adaptation guidance

Adapting a bathroom because of a disability? Mark talks you through what is available.

Eligible disability adaptation guidance

If someone living in your home has a long-term illness or disability, adapting a bathroom, shower room or toilet to suit their needs can open up extra help. Mark explains what is usually available when he visits.

  1. Tell Mark at the free home visit who the bathroom is being adapted for.
  2. He explains the eligible adaptation guidance and, where a form is needed, we complete our part and keep a copy with your paperwork.
  3. Your written quote is itemised, so you see the real price of each part of the adaptation before you decide.

Our dedicated mobility & level-access pricing guide above gives fixed starting prices for every adaptation, so you can budget before Mark visits.

  • Not sure whether you qualify? Ask at the free home visit. Mark can explain the guidance for grab rails, built-in shower seats and similar mobility aids fitted in your own home.
  • Decorative upgrades: extras that aren't part of the adaptation are quoted as separate lines.
  • Applying for a Disabled Facilities Grant? Grants run through Cumberland Council or Westmorland and Furness Council. We'll quote against the occupational therapist's recommendations so the paperwork lines up.

We can explain the guidance, but we can't decide eligibility for you. If you're unsure, ask your occupational therapist or your local council before you sign anything.

04 — Same doorway, before and after

From a high-sided bath to a flush walk-in shower.

Helen's mum could no longer step over the side of the bath. Drag the handle to compare the same doorway before the strip-out and on handover day.

After: the Stanwix bathroom as a flush walk-in wetroom with a non-slip floor, linear drain and frameless glass screen
Before: the Stanwix bathroom with a 1990s high-sided bath and a shower over it
Before After · 9 days

What changed for Helen's mum

The floor was dropped between the joists so the tiles meet the landing with no step at all. The shower floor slopes gently to a slim drain, and the whole room is waterproofed underneath before a single tile went down.

A brushed brass rail sits inside the shower at her height, beside a thermostatic shower she can't accidentally turn too hot. Total paid: £5,850, over 9 working days.

Mark Henderson, founderDoes every home visit himself

06 — Planned around the person

Rail heights are set with you, not from a drawing.

At the free home visit Mark watches how the bathroom gets used now: where a hand reaches for support, which side someone gets out of the bath, how much room a frame or chair needs. Rails, the seat and the shower controls are then marked on the wall with you before anything is fixed.

If an occupational therapist has already written recommendations, bring them along and we'll work to them. Mark and Ryan do the whole job themselves, so the person who measured is the person who fits it.

07 — Questions

Before you book a home visit.

Something else? Call Mark on 01228 587 745.

Will it look like a hospital bathroom?

No. Rails come in brushed brass, matt black or chrome to match the taps, the tiles are ordinary-looking porcelain with a non-slip finish, and the seat folds flat. Most visitors won't notice it's an adapted bathroom.

Is there guidance for adapting a bathroom because of a disability?

Yes. If someone living in the home has a long-term illness or disability and the work is to adapt the bathroom to their needs, Mark talks you through the eligible disability adaptation guidance at the free home visit. Your written quote is itemised so each part of the adaptation is clear. We can explain what is usually available, but eligibility is for you and the organisation involved to decide.

Can grab rails go on a plasterboard wall?

Not safely on plasterboard alone. We open the wall and add solid timber behind it, or fix into the masonry, so every rail takes full body weight. On a full refit this is built in before the tiles go on.

How long will we be without a shower or toilet?

A bath-to-shower swap takes 3–4 working days and a full wetroom 8–10. We keep the toilet working every evening wherever the layout allows, and tell you in advance about any day it can't be.

Do you work with Disabled Facilities Grants?

Yes. Grants are run by Cumberland Council and Westmorland and Furness Council. We'll provide an itemised quote that follows the occupational therapist's recommendations.

When can I reach you?

Surveys & installations: Mon–Fri 8am–6pm, Sat 9am–1pm. Emergency leaks & cylinder call-outs: 7 days, 8am–8pm. Mark's mobile rings first; if he's under a floor or soldering pipework, reception takes your postcode and job details and Mark rings you back between jobs.
